dc.description.abstract | This study presents removal of trace concentration of hcxavalcnt chromium from drinking water. In natural water hexavalcnt chromium remains predominantly as anionic chromate ions (HCr04—, Cr042 or Cr2072). Therefore, it is possible to separate chromate anions by means of selective removal using anion exchange resins. For this purpose the five different ion exchange resins: Tndion 820, IRA67, TANI, Duolite A7 and A830 were used. The experiments were cariicd with synthetic water having tracc concentration of hexavalent chromium along with significantly high concentration of other competing anions like chloride, sulphate etc. The chromium (VI) removing capacity is analyzed by plotting Linear, Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms using data obtained by batch test and by plotting break through curve using data obtained by fixed bed column run tests. The resins are characterized by Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to examine the metal accumulation due to presence of different functional groups with different kind of matrices. | en_US |
