Abstract: The obcctive of this study is to investigate influncc of local site conditions on strong ground motion characteristics. The strongground motin tistrumcntation sites located in the Tarai region of Uttarakhand, where the thickness of snil cover is significant, are considered for the study. The proposed study consists of site claracterization of each of the strong ground motion station using MASW te•ts to obtain shea wave velocity profiles of the sites. Further, site specific theoretical grourd response anaysis is carried out using SHAKE2000 to investigate local site effects on strong grot iid motion recordings cciaracteristics. For conducting theoretical groun( response analysis spectral compatible motions were used, compatible to the response spectrum provided Ii IS 1893:2002 (Part-i) for rock sites. The results of ground response analysis we:e presented in the form of amphi fication functions and response spectra for each site. Also the normalized response spectra obtained by ground response analysis were compared wkh the response spectra provided in IS 1893:2002 (Part-I) and normalized response spectra ot'tainC(l from actual recorded motions at these sites.
