Corrosion of metals had received maximum attention of engineers and researchers in field of environmental degradation of metals. It is important to understand the nature of all types of environmental degradation of metals and alloys as vividly as possible so that preventives measures against metal loss and failures can be economically devised to ensure safety and reliability in use of metallic components. This study is an attempt to improve the corrosion resistance of weldments of AIS 1304 (stainless steel) made by shielded metal arc welding. SS308L is used as a filler wire. To minimize the corrosion rate in welded zone of SS304, make a flux material. In this experiment 7%, 9% and 13% Ni is added in flux material and other ingredients remains unchanged. The experiments are conduct in laboratory under sea water condition, corrosion studies are characterized by the techniques such as optical microscopy, FE-SEM, EDAX and XRD to know an insight corrosion mechanism based on morphology of the corroded products formed on the welded sample.en_US
