Abstract: In this dissertation work an analysis for PS wave amplitude verses offset (AVO) has been carried out for different lithological models appropriate for hydrocarbon exploration. Performed seismic ray tracing and determined travel time for various models and incidence angles of seismic waves and after that found the ray parameter using Levenberg-Marquardt technique. The reflection and transmission coefficient has been be computed by using Zoeppritz equation. Synthetic seismogram has been generated using the reflection and transmission coefficient. Next inversion of reflection amplitudes in synthetic seismogram has been conducted to determine P wave and S wave velocity using Genetic Algorithm which is a subset of global optimization technique. Results show that model parameters (P and S wave) have been inverted satisfactorily
