Abstract: The main aim of my dissertation work is to study about the different aspects of the shaly sand reservoir like estimation of the shale volume(V5a ) ,porosity(ø) determination determination of the different types of the clay mineralogy ,diffCrent type of shales present in the reservoir and many other petrophysical properties of the reservoir and the most important is to calculate water saturation(S) in shaly sand reservoir As we know the first ever equation derived for the water saturation calculation in clean sand was by Archie (1942) The Archie equation was mainly for the clean formation It can't be used for the water saturation calculation in shaly sand .So after that many scientists derived the shaly sand equations ,which was mainly the extended form of Archie equation with additional shaly terms. Actualy all the shaly sand equations which is presently in use based on two concepts. one is shale volume (V,1) model cation exchange capacity model(CEC) In the shale volume model (VSh) we mainly involved with the terms like calculation of' shale volume(V,1 ) ,but in case of CEC model we are mainly concerned with the determination of' the cation exchange capacity(CEC) of the core sample. Some of the famous shale volume equations which i am going to use in my dissertation work are Indonesian equation( 1971) .which is used in case of slightly fresh formation water and high shaliness. The another Rimous equation which I will use in my water saturation(S) calculation is Simandoux equation( 1963) is reliable when we have low shaliness and slightly high salinity formation water. In this way I just want to use difi'erent shaly sand equations and try to see which gives better result.
