Abstract: The present study was undertaken with the motive to study the Paleogene (Lower Tertiary) rock sequences exposed along the NH-39 road section between Kohima and Dimapur in Nagaland. The samples collected from the field during the field investigation trip were studied for lithofacies and palynofacies analysis. The Disang rocks, mostly thick argillaceous sequences, were found to be composed of units deposited in highly oxidizing environment affected by marine influences. The Barail rocks indicated relatively nearer to land or shallower depths of deposition and low energy environment with rapid burial periods. The palynofacies assemblage studies of the rocks indicate deltaic environment of deposition for the Paleogene basin.
