Abstract: As the packaging industry developing rapidly, the demand of paperboard has been increased for last few decades. Packaging of goods by using paperboard is consumer friendly, cost effective, easy to stack and transport, easy to dispose as well as biodegradable. In this work, a comparative study has been done of single ply and multi ply paperboard sheets by using a different furnish raw materials such as softwood kraft pulp old newsprint pulp, old corrugated container and Mixed recycle pulp to optimize the different mechanical properties of paperboard as Burst Strength, Tensile Strength, Tear Strength, RCT Strength, Ply Bond Strength and Bending Stiffness. In second part of this study, the effect of cationic starch dose as wet end additive on O.D. basis on Tensile Strength, Tear Strength, and Ply Bond strength is also observed and dose is optimized. In last part of this study, the effect of surface sizing with Sodium silicate and oxidized starch compound on burst strength and RCT strength of multi ply board has observed.
