Abstract: Due to continuous reduction of conventional energy resources the non-conventional energy resources are expected to gain more importance in the production of electricity. In the area where renewable energy such as wind energy is available, the usage self-excited induction generators for generation of electricity is feasible, which gives rise to importance on the research on SEIG .The SEIGs have a poor voltage and frequency regulation. In this thesis different topologies using power electronic devices are analyzed which takes care of the reactive power requirements of the SEIG for varying load demand, for changes in rotor speed, changes in excitation capacitances etc. Advantages and disadvantages of all the topologies are well described. A Static VAR Compensator for an Induction motor is also discussed and simulated in this thesis and a prototype of TCR for the SEIG is designed.
