L has been widely adopted over the web to format and present the data. The advantage of using the XML is that user can define the data type as per there requirement.DTD/Schema file is used to define the rules for corresponding XML file. Using this DTD/Schema file the XML document can parse on the other user's machine. Due to increase in industry standards it is hard to achieve the interoperability, even though they arc from the same domain. XML being a syntactic model it is difficult to make resources interoperable. To support the interoperability data must be exchanged in a way that meaning of data is available when needed. This dissertation work presents an overview of why XML is not good enough to solve the problem of semantic interoperability and the problem faced by it. Then we discuss how RDF/OWL can be used to support semantic interoperability. Mediation based system has been an alternate solution to provide semantic interoperability. They make heterogeneous system interoperable with the help of local and global ontology. This local ontology need to be aliened in order to improve the performance. Ontology alignment is the process of finding the mapping between two ontologies. There has been many similarity algorithms proposed in order to find the mapping between two ontologies. We will propose some new similarity measure in order to provide the better similarity metric.en_US
