Abstract: Hybrid vehicles are continuously replacing conventional IC engine vehicles in the industry. DCDC converters are integral part of a hybrid vehicle. They are used in motor drives, sensors, regenerative braking and recharging. DC-DC converter efficiency, stability and performance affect the vehicle performance. This dissertation will consider its work on performance and characteristic analysis of dc-dc converters used in hybrid vehicles. The drive to prolong battery life means that efficiency is often considered the most important factor to consider in dc-dc converter specifications. Flying capacitor type dc-dc converter topology will be briefly introduced and its operation will be discussed. Its performance will be compared with other topologies of dc-dc converters. Later a PWM scheme for more controllable operation of flying capacitor dc-dc converter is explained. Simulations results will be carried out to verif' the theoretical results.
