Cities and regions from coast to coast are pursuing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) strategies as a way to achieve many goals. including increased economic competitiveness through improved quality of life, ieduced congestion, lower transportation costs for households, improvcd air quality, reduced costs for providing city services, and growth management. The concept of TOD is becoming more popular as the number of regions are planning light rail and bus rapid transit. Pune- the eighth largest Metropolis of India is widely known for its Information Technology hub and a large number of educational institutions. By keeping future demographic and allied infrastructural demand in mind the City Municipal Corporation is coming up with a Mass Rapid Transit System to strengthen the existing Public Transport Network. Since the proJect of Punc Metro is about to commence in year 2014-I 5 . the PMC must consider a Transit Oriented Development as a smart tool to achieve Smart Growth, New tirbanism and Location Efficient Development. With such opportunities in the background , this thesis takes a look at the existing scenario of the Urban Morphology , Accessibility Issues and Connectivity Potentials in Pune ('ity, India. Existing Projects like Delhi Metro and Mumbai Metro are critically studied along with the existing policies, Legislation and their level of implementation. Furthermore, some suitable examples of a good TOD implementation in the developed countries like Oxford - Circus , London , United Kingdom and also from the developing country like Brazil Sao Paulo are studied as the population density variable can be compared with the Indian Case. - Development oriented Policy guidelines for a particular stretch of the proposed Metro Corridor in Punc are the final outcomes of this dissertation.en_US
