Abstract: Small scale generations play significant role in electrical energy generation and electrification of rural areas where grid extension is either very costly or not possible. So in order to provide continuous, quality and reliable power to such areas, formation of Mini-end will be effective solution. In hilly region of India, hydropower potential is available but is not being completely utilized for power generation till date due to unavailability of grid, as rural areas are not utilizing the whole potential available, the most of the potential is treated as waste therefore there is a need to have a solution to this major problem. This dissertation presents optimized design of Mini-grid system. For the purpose of design of Mini-grid, 9 MHPs of Bagheswar district are selected which are connected with two sub stations. 'Ihese MHPs are working only for 8 hours in a day, and for remaining 16 hours, power generation is wasted. By interconnecting these MHPs, excess generated power from MHPs can be transferred to grid and these MHPs can be operated for 24 hours. Substituting the locations of MHPs and substations in GOOGLE EAR'IH, distances between MI-IFs and distances between MHPs and substations, Elevation of MHPs and substations, highest elevation and lowest elevation in any path, and path profile are computed. By using these data, reliability in terms of interruption time has been calculated. By using locations of MHPs and substations, distances, and reliability, optimum and reliable interconnected structure with the help MATLAB GENE1'IC ALGORITHM has been obtained.
