Abstract: 1-lydrokinetic turbine, one of the most emerging technologies for power generation, has gained keen interest of the researchers because of some of the unique properties of water like higher specific weight. higher momentum than air for same velocity etc. 1-lydrokinetic energy is an emerging class of renewable energy that harnesses the kinetic energy of moving water. Hydrokinetic technology can be deployed in rivers. streams, or constructed waterways with very low hydraulic head. This characteristic significantly increases the number of potential installation sites and applications possible with hydrokinetic technology. River Current 'lurbines are electromechanical energy converters that harness kinetic energy of' a stream of flowing river water to generate electricity. lurbine is considered to be the one of most important part of the plant. in '. hich generation and supply depends also the performance of plant. It is clear that these could reduce the greenhouse gases emissions that are causing global v arming. 1-lydro kinetic technology against the environmental and impact of other available energy technologies. keeping in mind the cost of fuels on air and water pollution as well as global warmino. ihe present dissertation. hydrokinetic turbines are studied. Based on the literature analysis, it is seen that there is a scope of evaluation the performance of hydro kinetic turbine which is based on experimental analysis. In this work, an experimental setup has been made for evaluation the performance of modified savonious turbine in hydraulics measurement laboratory of Alternate Ilydro Energy Centre. LIT Roorkee. The designed channel facilitates to conduct the performance test on hydrokinetic turbine under the variable condition of flow i.e. different flow velocities under different depths. A modified twisted blades Savonious turbine has been designed. fabricated and tested experimentally. The power coefficient of the turbine has been found as 0.16 for Tip speed ratio of 0.587. Power coefficient can further be improved by optimizing the twist angle of blade.
