Abstract: | Need of well constructed and maintained roads are increasing day by day in the whole world as the world is getting more urbanized as well as due to the expanding human living habitat. Uttarakhands econonw rises after its formation due to the tourist attraction. As 1.Jttarakhand state lies in the Garhwal Himalaya. facing problem of excavation of roads. Construction of roads is too difficult in hilly regions because of the steepness of slopes. Also unplanned constructed roads are facing many problems as slope materials are sliding down to create traffic problems. In this context. slope stability study has been carried out along Dehradun-Mussoorie road section. Objective of the study is to identify the failure prone slope and to suggest remedial measures to stabilize the slope. To study the slope stability there are many methods like Chinese Slope Mass Rating (Romana and Zuyu). Slope Mass Rating (Romana) etc. The current ork is based on modified SMR technique (Anbalagan 1992) for rock slope and Circular Failure Chart (I-lock and Bray) br the soil slopes. SMR is the modification of RMR (Rock Mass Rating) by adding the adjustment factors. Through kinematic analysis and modified SMR technique, slope stability is found out. Failure Charts are used to find out the Factor of Safety in various groundwater condlitiotis. Current work includes the Factor of safety of soil slopes in different groundwater saturation conditions. Basically RMR gives an idea about strength of the rock mass. Strength of rocks mass is depends on various parameters which are considered to obtain RMR value. RMR does not give any idea about stability of slope but only SMR can give an idea about the stability of slope. The final SMR values give an idea of stability of each rock slope. Factor of Safety calculated using Circular Failure Chart gives an idea about the stability of soil slopes. After getting these values, the unstable slopes are to be treated according the SMR classification. SMR classification suggests the support measures that to be treated according to tile SMR value. |
