Abstract: | Computer aided design systems have been developing a lot over the years. The systems are continuously evolving providing support to new challenges for the designer. Initially geometric modelling was prevalent. The difficulties associated with geometric modelling were overcome by feature modelling. Due to features, the functional information is able to exchange along with geometric model. The demands of complex shapes are fulfilled by form features. Feature paradigm has now shifted from regular shape to freeform features. The present work aims at developing a classification for a set of freeform surface features to enable their representation. The basis of the classification is type of manufacturing process involved i.e. deformation, elimination or combination of both process. Finally the methodology to extract a class of deformation of process is proposed. This approach extracts simple parameters from the feature class necessary to instantiate that particular set of features. |
