Abstract: The main objective of the present study is to carry out routing studies on the Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro-Electric Project on the river Alaknanda from the upstream station (Hellong) to the downstream Station (Birahi). Satellite images (ASTER imagery) were used for identification and understanding the terrain of the region. Flow and stage values from September 2010 to May 2011 have been used. Using the above available data, detailed physiographic analysis has been carried out to compute physiographic and geomorphological parameters using ASTER DEM and GIS. HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS software packages have been used for routing. The results of the simulations by both the software were found to be in close accordance with the observed values. 1-IEC-RAS and HEC-I-[MS gave a Nash Sutcliffe coefficient of 93.74% and 93.6% respectively which show that the simulated values correspond well to the observed values. The coefficient of determination value (r2) for 1-IEC-RAS was 0.9535 and for FIEC-HMS was 0.9532.
