dc.description.abstract | The recent development of substrate integrated waveguides (SIWs) has demonstrated that conventional rectangular waveguide structures can be formed at the printed circuit board and micro-fabrication level in the planar form. SIW components can be easily integrated with conventional printed planar circuits like microstrip lines and coplanar waveguide. They have advantages of both printed planar circuits and conventional rectangular waveguides. They are compact, easy to fabricate, flexible, light, and cost effective; still have more shielding, high Qfactor, low loss, and high power-handling capacity. The work in this dissertation work starts with forming SIW cavity which is used to develop SIW based horn antenna. The proposed antenna is simulated in CST microwave studio. The whole antenna including microstrip feeding is completely constructed at a single substrate by using SIW technique. The whole design of the antenna is of 5.65 cm * 4.2 cm size. The antenna is designed with center frequency of 15 GHz. Further two SIW based horn antennas are designed and tested to attain reconfigurability with the help of ON-OFF and ON-ON switch states. The feed is common for both the antennas. Antenna is designed in such a way that both horns are at 90 degree to each other. The switching is done with the help of biasing a PIN diode by using Bias tee. When one switch is on and other is off, only one SIW based horn antenna radiates. When both switches are ON, both SIW based horn antennas radiate. | en_US |
