Abstract: | in the present world, load requirements have been increasing continuously. To meet the demands, the main concern of utilities is to supply power equivalent to the energy requirements. Thus, electricity generated through generation should be available till customer end point. For this, components of power system play a major role in maintaining the continuity of supply. But due to high complexity involved in power system, many factors such as interruption in supply voltage, frequency, lault in overhead lines, feeder breakers etc the required power demand is not met. This shows the need to evaluate the performance of these components so as to analyse how reliable the power system is in supplying required power. Reliability evaluation of power system gives the measure of overall ability of a system to perform its intended function. Through this analysis one can plan the re structuring of the sites owing to poor reliability and increase their performance characteristics. To fulfil this objective Roy Billinton Test system is taken into consideration whose reliability indices are determined at all the three hierarchical levels. Also, a case study of distribution system existing in Indian Institute of Technology. Roorkee is also taken into consideration with a view to understand the problems associated with practical system. The results obtained proved quiet helpful in determining those areas that need reinforcement and in comparative analysis of those areas in terms of reliability |
