Abstract: Smart grid is being very useful in power systems industry for its vast potentials and it provides various numbers of benefits which include efficient management, self-healing of the network, smart metering system, load forecasting and dynamic pricing. Modern days power system network across the world are employing the computer aided monitoring, control and management of smart mini grid system to facilitate better service to consumers. Current advancement in IT industries and communication technique used in data processing is being utilized to make the electric distribution network to smarter one. Highly advanced smart mini grids, mainly address the major drawback of the existing mini grid system. This paper presents an automation of power system network existing in lIT Roorkee with special focus on distribution automation, which leads the power system network to smarter one. The functions of distribution automation and management systems are analyzed in detail for construction smart mini grid system. The cost details of component used in it is also given. The economic issues related to this system are also considered, the initial capital cost, operating cost net present cost (NPC), reduction in losses in transmission and distribution • system, fall in labor cost due to automation of the system and simple payback time for the project. In addition to this project will also support the renewable energy application to reduce the green house emitter gasses. For this, we can use clean power rectifier in place of conventional diode rectifier. This paper constitutes sixteen distributed substation to integrate it into smart mini grid system to satisfy customer need. A control technique using central controller, local controller, data acquisition system and monitoring hardware is used to interconnect the distribution with load connected to it to improve reliability and quality of power supply system. The main task is to control the frequency and voltage of systems. It also includes flexible control hierarchy of interconnected mini grids based on inverters. This paper proposes smart grid operating techniques for efficient management of mini grid connected to house hold loads in rural environment. The smart grid concepts can have usual applications for grid system based on renewable energy sources. Efficient management, selfhealing, dynamic pricing and its numerous benefits of Smart grid is being considered very useful in power systems industry. The smart grid concepts can have usual applications for grid system based on renewable energy sources.
