dc.description.abstractIt is well known that attainment of equilibrium conditions for alluvial streams is quite often complicated by variability of sediment load along with its size distribution. Mostly the alluvial streams can only attain a state of dynamic equilibrium. The alluvial streams are affected by alternate cycles of stream bank erosion and deposition which introduces instability in the channel morphology as well as in their alignment. This river behaviour throws a big challenge for river engineers to maintain the navigation channels as well as to protect precious land resources from erosion. In the above context a recent technique called chevrons has been innovated by U.S.A.C.E. in U.S.A. for the purpose of maintaining navigation channels especially near harbour areas of the river systems. In this dissertation it is proposed to conduct research through lab experiments on some of the significant design parameters relating to side channel width, submergence and also the variability of sediment concentration in an alluvial streamen_US
