The limitations of global resources of fossil and nuclear fuel, has necessitated an urgent search for alternative sources of energy. Therefore, a new \vav has to be found to balance the supply and demand without resorting to coal and gas lltelled generators. Smart grid is a system that would enable the integration of renewable energy sources such solar photo voltaic (SPV) and shift lioni reliance on Rssil fuels, while maintaining the balance between supply and demand. Smart grid is a system consists of three layers: the physical power laer. the control layer and the application la\er. The smart grid has to be dynamic and have constant two-way communication. The system could be more reliable and effective ii' it is used with solar or wind energ) system and able to lul 1111 global energy crisis and ever increasing demand. Performance optimization. system reliability and operatioiial efficiency are key characteristics of smart grid systems. In this dissertation an effective model of smart grid-connected SPV system is developed. It comprises photovoltaic array. controller and converters!inverters. The model is implemented using MAT! .AB/SIMULINK software package. Perturb and observe (l'&O) algorithm is used for maximizing the generated power based on maximum power point tracker (MPPT) implementation. The dynamic behavior of the proposed model is examined under different operating conditions. Solar - irradiance, and temperature is gathered from a grid connected. 100 kW solar power system feeding to utility grid. [)iffercnt performance characteristics of the system are plotled and examine in this dissertation work to foresee the behavior of proposed smart grid integrated SPV system.en_US
