Abstract: | The development which could be expected and interpreted as the positive side of growth lacks in the newly expanding cities. A pre-planned approach of providing amenities to the citizens residing in these zones gets lost in the overwhelming wave of urbanisation. The growth happens first and infrastructure comes much later in these zones which thrive as unmanaged urban masses. The following thesis aims to examine issues pertaining to this set of urban and rural planning which involves having a great impact in the development of lands and its people in the era of2lst century. The issue dealt here would be development changes which occur in peri urban lands. It would be a case specific study of currently developing town of India. The city taken here is Aligarh which lies in the western part of Uttar Pradesh. The study area considered in this investigation is one of the tier 2 cities of India and is in the phase of accelerated urbanisation. It has been observed that since 1990, it has grown almost 3 folds of its original area. Hence making it a live laboratory to observe the experiment of city - Expansion and drawing out some specific conclusions. The methodology involved would be carrying out of primary surveys in the case area, collecting secondary data for the associated problem and critiquing on the current master plan for the problem involved. It would then be examined against other Indian cities ofhaving experienced the same urban planning issue. This area would simultaneously be put into comparative analysis with some European/German cities in accordance with their planning procedures. In the end an interactive system analysis is aimed so as to generate practical policy based solutions to improve the conditions of living in the aforesaid area. |
