Abstract: | In present scenario erosion and fatigue are the greater challenges for any engineering structure or component for example in turbine blade, crank shaft, thermal power plant, hydro power plant, gear and Automobiles etc. In this study, the slurry erosion behavior of three different type of induction hardened and unhardened steel has been observed. Also compared with the higher case depth low case depth 45C8 and found that high case depth 45C8 induction hardened steel shows 37.1% higher erosive resistance property than that of lower case depth. In This experiment, effect of slurry erosion has been studied with different type of steels like EN47 spring steel and 42CrMo4 Cromax steel. Hardened EN47 exhibits slightly better result over I lardened Cromax steel 7.581/'0. It could have due to the presence of Mo and comparatively higher amount of Cr in Cromax 42CrMo4 steel. These alloying element are strong carbide formers they maintained the higher hardness level upto the hardened layer. But hardened Cromax exhibits better erosion property then hardened 45C8 steel by 42.04%.. |
