Abstract: | Rapid population growths, land development along River basin. urbanization and industrialization have subjected the Rivers to increase stress. giving rise to ater pollution and environmental deterioration. The surface water pollution issue has been enlisted as one of the most serious problems in developing countries. Most of the Rivers in the urban areas of the developing world are the end point of effluents discharged from the industries. I he astcwater from urban runoff and industrial discharges contributes to water resources degradations, reduces agriculture production and affects public health. - Hindon River is a highly polluted tributary of Yarnuna which carries municipal waste. industrial waste of various industries like sugar, paper and pulp, etc. in the upper stretch and at - most times its flow is only due to this discharge. Hindon River in study stretch where it is a continuous flowing body unlike the upper stretch where it is dry at most places in the summer The study examines the physiochemical parameters like TDS. pH. E30[). ('OE). 1)0. phosphate. sulphate, chloride, hardness. conductivity, turbidity and heavy metal analysis of/ri. Cu. Cr and Fe with calculation of discharge in the lower stretch oil lindon River at 12 sampling locations in River and II locations in the drains discharging effluents in it considering two seasons i.e. Premonsoon and Post-monsoon. These analysis results have been used to calculate Water Qualit Index Also, analysis results have been projected on Water Quality Model QUAL2K to predict - the future pollution load on River Hindon These investigations suggest that Hindon is highly polluted and conservation measures are needed to protect it. For its conservation, a plan of STP' - designed for 35 years and its cost estimate has been proposed. An Institutional arrangement for proper working for the proposed plan is sLiggested with formation of a new department for SWM. Public participation was found to be the core factor thr the success of this plan therefore awareness level and amount of participation with coat involved was also estimated to prepare a plan for it accordingly. The main objective of the work is to perform various operations which are related with the improving and preserving the water quality of the Hindon River and in depth analysis of the present status of 1-lindon River |
