In this dissertation an inverter named as Z-Source inverter has been presented along with its control strategies and is also compared with the voltage source inverter and current source inverter which are the traditional inverters. There are certain advantages of Z-source inverter over these inverters which have also been discussed in detail. The control strategies of the Z-Source inverter have been analysed in detail and their advantages as well as drawbacks have been discussed and ways have been proposed to eliminate the drawbacks. Two methods to control the Z-Source inverter have been proposed namely simple control strategy and maximum boost control strategy. Voltage stress across the switches have also been compared for the two strategies and voltage gain of these two have been compared, analysed as well as simulated. A technique known as third harmonic injection that is used to reduce the current ripple has also been applied and simulated. Lastly, performance analysis of VSI fed induction motor drive has been compared with ZSl fed induction motor drive. In the end some future work prospects are being given which are not addressed yet and which can be done to further improve the quality.en_US
