Renewable energy generation, especially solar energy generating systems have gained popularity recently; especially in India owing to Govt. policies favoring it. It opens new doors for research in this area as for this energy to be used, it needs to be converted to the standard accepted norms of either the grid, or domestic loads, which can be done only through power electronic equipment. But, to get the maximum benefit, it is necessary to see where these technologies fit in the bigger picture and what might be the best topologies to harness their - energy. - This report presents an overview of the Electricity Scenario in India, focusing on the major challenges and some solutions to the same with relevance to renewables. Hence discussed in this report is the concept of distributed generation, which, upon preliminary investigation seems to be a solution to some challenges. The pros and cons of its implementation particularly with respect to solar photovoltaic systems are discussed. Some possible topologies to harness solar energy using the photovoltaic technology are discussed and the most relevant topology, based on a study of Indian grid interconnection laws is explained and its working has been verified with proper simulations. Results of the simulations and a toned down hardware implementation are presented in the end.en_US
