Abstract: | Snow avalanches and their dynamics is a complex subject of study for researchers. A complete measurement of all avalanche dynamics parameters of an avalanche event on a real avalanche site is very difficult and has not been done so far. Being a dynamic pheiiomemon. complete measurements (avalanche velocity profile, avalanche flow depth, pressure etc.) on small scale inclined chute facilities also not possible, however, these facilities help in understand some of the phenomenon of avalanche flow. Lack of complete mathematical equations describing physics of avalanche flow, also make it difficult to develop a complete tool for avalanche simulation. 1-lence, avalanche simulation tools available nowadays are only approximation to avalanche dynamics and need experimental determination of various parameters used in these tools. These parameters may differ substantially depending upon terrain and snow conditions. In the present work attempt has been made to explore the application of avalanche simulation tool RAMMS for small avalanches on a channelized terrain & created small snow avalanches on Dhundi snow chute is being created during the study and measurement of avalanche runout have been made. A study was conducted for multiple avalanche simulations using RAMMS with multiple combinations of friction parameter t and and same initial release conditions. The study estimated most suitable combinations of friction parameters values for Dhundi snow chute. Using these friction parameters and also used RAMMS for studying interaction of small avalanches with dam like structures and compared the results with experimental data. |
