Abstract: Isoxazole is an azole ring with an oxygen atom next to nitrogen. Isoxazoles belong to an important class of heterocyclic compounds. These compounds have great interest in organic synthesis because of their various biological activities such as antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anticonvu lsant, antihyperglycem ic, anticancer, antithrombotic and antipsychotic. Isoxazole rings are found in some natural products such as ibotanic acid which is a powerful neurotoxin that is used as a brain lesnioning agent. The importance of these compounds demand the necessity for the development of novel methodologies for the rapid formation of these compounds using a simple, mild, efficient and inexpensive starting materials. We have developed a protocol for the synthesis of isoxazole derivatives via one-pot [3 + 2] dipolar cycloaddition of in situ generated nitrile oxides and alkyne derivatives using environmentally benign and less expensive hypervalent iodine reagent diacetoxyiodobenzene (DIB). All the products were characterized by NMR, IR and GC-MS spectral analysis
