The present work an attempt has been made to use slag waste as a flux in submerged arc welding. Slag generated during submerged arc welding has been recycled by mixing varying percentages of crushed slag with fresh flux to use in subsequent runs. The effect of using flux-slag mixture on weld chemistry has been investigated. Some mechanical properties of weld metal like that tensile strength, impact strength, micro-hardness and micro- structure in submerged arc weldments are evaluated. The results indicate that the use of slag-flux mixture in submerged arc welding does not adversely affect on the chemistry of weld metal and very closed results or more than the fresh flux. In addition, slag detachability and weld bead appearance and arc stability were found satisfactory during welding.en_US
