Least-squares method of model order reduction technique in frequency domain is discussed for linear time-invariant single-input single-output continuous dynamic system. The overview of least-squares fitting is represented showing its significance to resolve the problem experienced by Pade approximation method. A practical model of 6th order hydropower system is taken from the literature for study. The analysis for the application of Least-squares method to the hydropower system is made along with the simulated output time response. The results from the graphical analysis and the integral square error are compared with that of the other existing techniques. The mentioned method is applied successfully to the 6th order transfer function of the hydropower system under study and the stability is retained with better quality of lower order approximationen_US
