dc.description.abstract | In the last few decades, the world has witnessed rapid urbanization. One of the many complex problems which have come up with increased urbanization is that of quick drainage of storm water from the inhabited areas. The evidence on the built environment and physical activity presented here comes from two major sources: studies on sustainability evaluation of storm water drainage system of urban town and finding solutions for them and SWOT analysis of stonnwater in urban area of India. To assess and monitor the progress of implementing sustainable storm water management the sub-committee for development of National sustainable habitat parameters on urban storm water management" has developed the key parameters and indicators which are: Natural drainage system index, Drainage coverage (constructed) index, Permeability index, Water bodies rejuvenation index, water body vulnerability index, Water logging index, Area vulnerability index, Storm water discharge quality index and Rainfall intensity index etc.. The study area, Roorkee town, is a medium sized town group' comprising of two units, Roorkee municipal board and Roorkee cantonment board. It lies at 29°5 I' N latitude and 77°63' E longitude on the right bank of Solani river and on the left and right banks of the Upper Ganges canal. The sustainability indices for the stormwater have been observed within the limit on 0 to I scale for Roorkee town. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analysis was applied in order to evaluate the SWOT of the • stormwater and surface water resources. Moreover, some recommendations are made to assist the rational management that aim at improving the sustainability of the storm water resources of - Roorkee town. For this tube well data of lIT Roorkee campus and water quality data dry and wet weather flows in drains of Study area are analyzed. Result shows that physical properties, organic compounds, cations and anions all the constituents have displayed higher concentration in summer season. | en_US |
