Abstract: | The term soil structure interaction has largely been used for the mechanics of interaction between soil, foundation and the superstructure or its part buried in the soil. For obtaining the more realistic analysis several studies were conducted on the effect of the soil structure interaction problems. They have quantified the effect of interaction behavior and established that, there is redistribution of forces in the structure and soil mass. Distribution of earth pressure and its amount is a function of magnitude and nature of the absolute and relative movements of soil and the structure. In the present work, retaining wall was modeled in PLAXIS and the earth pressure was calculated behind the retaining wall. For understanding the actual behavior of wall, when the soil was backfilled, its magnitude was analyzed by the method of staged construction. A global safety factor was obtained for checking its structural functioning. A parametric study was also conducted. The maximum displacement and horizontal force on retaining wall for the different value of the roughness of interface, Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of soil were measured. |
