Abstract: Sulfonylation of phenols and amines is an important transformation in organic synthesis for the synthesis of sulfonyl ethers and sulfonamides. These sulfonyl compounds are usually crystallized into very pure solids and are extensively used to active functionalization in drug delivery, pharmaceutical chemistry, and materials chemistry, both on laboratory and on industrial scale. These molecules involve in the synthesis of many biologically active compounds. And also these compounds show activity towards antiviral agents, anticancer, anti VIH protease inhibitor and anti-inflammatory. The importance of these compounds demands the necessity for the development of novel, efficient, eco-friendly methodologies for the rapid formation of these compounds using readily available and inexpensive starting materials. We have developed a protocol for the synthesis of sulfonyl ethers and sulfonamide derivatives via sulfonylation of phenolic compounds and amines using sulfonyl chloride as sulfonylating agent under basic medium. This methodology does not require any purification techniques such as column chromatography and recrystalization
