Abstract: | In this modern, fast moving and highly competitive world, the most important thing is health and safety of life. Each and every government of world working in coherence for safety of their citizens from the road accidents, majority of which occurs due to overspeeding of vehicles, Various legislations and agreements have been executed but still situation is torpid. Nowadays vehicles with much improved speed and performance are developing but very few of them have speed regulation devices that too very expensive, So there is a need to develop a system to regulate speed of vehicles actively in a cost effective manner to prevent accidents. Nowadays mostly Passive systems are used to monitor the speed of the vehicles by the law enforcement authorities who take curable actions after occurrence of exceeding speed incidents like fines. But this is passive technique and not a prevention as the vehicle owner - had no intimation regarding exceeding speed limit at real time and may lead to accident. So a active device can be developed by integrating GPS Technology with communication engineering technology through which speed and location of the vehicle is monitored by the concerned authority at real time which can also intimate the driver regarding exceeding speed limit thus preventing loss of lives and economic loss too. This embedded system use in-built computer i.e. microcontroller, which transmit the infon-nation extracted from GPS receiver to a user defined mobile number as SMS which can be of device owner or law enforcement agencies using GSM system and buzzer on system will be activated if prescribed speed is exceeded. The architecture of the system consist of two tiers, first is hardware which consists of mainly three modules GPS module, GSM module, Microcontroller module, all together are connected using electronic interfacing and second tier is software , i.e. programming done in microcontroller indicating how to interact within componenetst. Programming of microcontroller is done in AVR studio. This dissertation discusses about the design parameters, architecture, need, functioning, future scope, advantages etc. of the system in a structural way .The prototype is designed in such a way as to be compatible with the future modifications like system can be integrated with the IVRS (Interactive voice response system) to make it more sophisticated or can be - interfaced with online mapping software for multiplicity of vehicles and users. Cost effectiveness, accuracy, removal of redundant components are the main parameters on which prototype is designed. |
