Now a days, the main concerns of engineers and researchers is corrosion of metals which results in degradation of metal due to which failure of the component may takes place. It is important to understand the basic cause of corrosion under different environmental conditions for different applications so that preventive measures can be taken against the failures and metal loss so as to ensure the safety and reliability of the component. In this study an attempt is made to improve the resistance to the corrosion of A1S1304 (Stainless Steel) by the hard facing of alloys by powder pre-placement technique over its surface. The hard facing is done by Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) using austenitic stainless steel electrode (E308 16). The alloy which is used for hard facing is formed by mixing different powders, but this study mainly focused on the addition of manganese and cerium in the alloy. In this experiment 1.3 wt%, 2.26 wt%. 4.27 wt% of cerium and 10 wt% of manganese is added in the hard facing alloy. This study mainly is an attempt to analyze the pitting corrosion behavior of SS304. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory under 3.5% NaCl solution and the corrosion studies are characterized by techniques like, tafel extrapolation technique (gamry potentiostat), FE-SEM, EDAX and SEM so as to analyze the corrosion behavior of the alloy.en_US
