Abstract: Reverse engineering (RE) is a domain of current interest where physical models are measured or digitized in order to obtain a virtual model. These kinds of models are good for many applications but people need more for redesign operations. Reverse engineering (RE) is a powerful tool for generating a CAD model from the 3D scan data of a physical part. RE is mainly useful where there is a need to remanufacture a part or artefact for which documentation is not available. The process of digitizing a part and creating a CAD model from 3D scan data is less time consuming and provides greater accuracy than manually measuring the part and designing the part from scratch in CAD. RE approaches are now widely used in numerous applications, such as manufacturing, industrial design, and jewellery design and reproduction etc. In the report, papers have been reviewed which depicts the possible solutions to maintain/inspect a worn or damaged product. On the basis of this study, gaps in research areas of RE are included in this report and accordingly a problem is formulated for further study and after the formulation of study a methodology is adopted to carry out the experimental work and results are accordingly stated at the end of work.
