This study aims to derive particle extinction coefficient using Lidar that operated in angular mode. The angular mode of deriving particle extinction coefficient is explained in this thesis. A code has been generated in MATLAB software to derive particle extinction coefficient and the measurements are plotted in the angular representation after correcting the Lidar signals for noise and range. To find out the angular extinction coefficient slop method and two angle method have been used from Kovolev and Echinger (2004). With the vertical observation we can find particle layer at a particular point not over a region or area so with the angular mode we can fulfil these requirements. In methodology for angular extinction coefficient we used vertical observations to assuming that molecular distribution in horizontal plane is homogeneous. This thesis presents the role of Lidar in detecting the particle layers in the atmosphere which is very important in understanding the air pollution and its strength. For this study we have used Scanning LIDAR system, which is developed by BL LIDAR Laboratory of NARL, Gadanki for remote sensing of suspended particulate matter and clouds in the atmosphere. The angular mode of Lidar observations also shows the existence of elevated particle layers which indicates the predominant nature of air pollutants that transported in the lower atmosphere. The frequent particles layers existence in the lower boundary layer over Gadanki site is attributed due to the vehicular transport on the adjacent national highway NHI 8A.en_US
