Abstract: | Moms (Mulberry) can be used as an alternative raw material to obtain cellulosic puips. Pulping was done by using kraft process. The hollo cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin contents of moms straw are similar to those of some woody raw materials such as pine and eucalyptus, and various non-wood materials. Sodium hydroxide and sodium sulphate (Kraft process) as cooking liquor as used for pulping. Different active alkali charge were given for pulping and optimum condition was determine, which comes 16% active alkali charge as Na2O. Pulping was done at 1650C, 16% active alkali as Na2O and for 210 minutes. Characterizations of raw material and pulp obtain from Kraft pulp were done. Fiber quality analysis of unbleached pulp, Oxygen delignified pulp, bleached pulp of DEpD, ODEpD and OCEpH sequnces were determine. Unbleached pulp gives highest fibre length and width followed by DEpD bleached pulp, Oxygen delignified pulp, ODEpD bleached pulp and OCEpH bleached pulp. Bleaching with oxygen delignification and without oxygen delignification was performed and mechanical and optical properties were determined. Bleaching sequence ODEpD gives maximum brightness among DEpD and OCEpH bleaching sequences. The effluents obtained from bleaching sequences are characterized and compared for reduced amount of COD and TDS for different bleaching sequences. |
