Abstract: In this thesis, the effects of basin-shape and site-city-interaction on the ground motion characteristics are studied in details. Three basin-shapes namely rectangular, elliptical and trapezoidal have been considered. The shape of the basin and density of city have great effects on important characteristics of ground motion like amplitude, frequency and duration of ground motion. A fourth order accurate viscoclastic finite-difference staggered-grid program has been used to compute the SV-wave responses of the various considered site and site-city models. It is concluded that ground motion characteristics very much depends on the basin-shape. Further, it concluded that the amplitude of ground motion in the basin generally get reduced due to the site-city interaction effects on strong ground motion. So, SC! effects deserves an attention to achieve a cost effective earthquake resistance design and seismic microzonation
