dc.description.abstract | This study aims to investigate the treatability of rubber industry wastewater and bleach plant effluent from pulp and paper mill by using electrochemical treatment process. Removal of color, chemical oxygen demand (COD), oil and grease and total solids from the effluents were examined at different pH and different electrolyte doses (NaCi) by using two types of electrodes Aluminum (Al) and stainless steel respectively at various electrolysis times (20 to 80 minutes at 20 minutes interval). In case of rubber industry wastewater, among Aluminum and Stainless Steel electrodes, maximum removal efficiency was found with stainless steel electrodes. It was observed that the experiments carried out at 5V, an electrolysis time of 60 minutes, electrolyte dose of NaCI (0.5 g/L) and at pH 7 were adequate for maximum removal of these pollutants with Aluminum electrodes. In case of bleach effluent, maximum removal efficiencies are found with Aluminum electrodes in contrast to stainless steel. It was observed that the experiments carried out at 5V, an electrolysis time of 60 minutes and at pH 7 were adequate for maximum removal of these pollutants with Aluminum electrodes. The maximum removal efficiency of color, COD and BOD by Aluminum electrodes were 96%, 72%, 50% and respectively. In both the cases, It was found that 60 minutes of electrolysis time was sufficient for maximum removal of pollutants and further increase in dwelling time for electro-chemical treatment imposes no further positive effect on the pollutants elimination. Thus above result shows that electrochemical treatment can be positively used for the treatment of bleach plant waste water. | en_US |
