The projects including the design and construction of underground openings, supports and rock pillars as well as drilling, blasting and haul roads are based on the understanding of the mechanical behavior of rocks under various loading conditions. Mechanical behavior of rock under static loading has been thoroughly investigated. However, rock reaction to cyclic, repetitive stresses resulting from dynamic loads has been generally neglected, with the exception of a few rather limited studies. It is therefore important to study the behavior of rocks subjected to cyclic loading, in order to better understand the damage and failure mechanism of the rocks and to develop techniques for application in geotechnical engineering.en_US
