Hydro turbine is a prime mover which converts energy available at its inlet into mechanical energy which drives the shaft and this mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy through generator. Hydraulic potential is present in the water flowing from higher to lower elevation. This potential flow from higher level to lower level can be utilized by converting it into mechanical power on the shaft of turbine. During this conversion some losses are encountered, out of which some occurs in the machine like frictional losses, while some occurs in the water passage connecting machine and water sourceen_US
