Abstract: India is the biggest sugar producing country in the world after Brazil and make use of significant quantity of water for various sugar production processes. This polluted waste water as effluent is directly discharged in the different water bodies without treatment. As per the environmental consciousness the policies and regulation to control the aquatic pollution, it has been made mandatory to treat the waste water for recycling within the industry in order to reduce the pressure on surface and ground water resource. The sugar industries amount to a major percentage of industries in the country. As a result of rapid Urbanisation and Industrialisation, there is haphazard growth of sugar industries. This also outcome of competitive globalisation exp. to export goods. An industrial waste contributes large extent in the increase in pollution of the country and in turn has many adverse impacts like global warming, ozone layer depletion, medical and psychological problems for human beings, etc. The waste water is major part of sugar industrial pollutants as lot of fresh water is used and ingredient in manufacturing of sugar, the sugar cane has large amount of water content. Thus, the water has to be free from effluents before letting it into surface water reserves. Effluent Treatment Plant is generally used in sugar industry for removal of different pollutant. Dhampur Sugar Industry Ltd. has been selected for collection of samples and data of Effluent Treatment Plant. The aim of this analysis is to assess the performance of Effluent Treatment Plant in Dhampur Sugar Mill (25 MLD) in terms of removal efficiency of BOD, COD, TSS, etc. The result based on the data collected, it is shown that the plant is performing very well as the removal of pollutants in terms of BOD, COD, TSS, etc are meeting the ISI standard.
