Abstract: | There are many power quality issues that are presently faced by electrical engineers and consumers. Out of those issues, harmonics are mainly dominating and result in adverse effects. The major source of harmonics are due to non-linear loads. Because of these harmonics, there are many problems like voltage distortions at point of common coupling (PCC) and increase of losses etc. So there is a need to mitigate them. Shunt Active Line Conditioner (SALC) is one of the shunt connected power device, which is used for the mitigation of current based distortions such as current harmonics, load balancing, power factor correction. In this report, the performance of four leg Voltage source converter(VSC) based SALC, split capacitor based SALC and Three single phase VSC based SALC are analyzed when it is connected to a three phase four wire system. Also four leg VSC based SALC is analyzed when it is connected to a three phase three wire system. The improvement in various performance parameters like total harmonic distortion(THD), compensation of unbalanced load current, regulating the DC voltage of capacitor are observed using MATLAB/SIMULINK |
