In wind energy conversion systems, the unpredictability and incoherence of wind is one of the operational problems. In most cases, speed of wind can vary hastily. Hence, Power quality becomes an important problem in wind energy conversion plants. Quite a few control techniques have been useful to improve the quality of generated energy from wind turbines. Pitch angle control is the most effective and popular control method, particularly for variable-speed wind turbines. Wind generator output power is proportional to the cube of wind speed, which sources wind turbine generators to produce more output power. In order to regulate the power generated, the pitch angle of the wind turbine blades is adjusted such that the generated power would not exceed rated power. In this dissertation a pitch angle control technique based on the Fuzzy Logic Control based Adaptive PI controller is presented to control the pitch angle. This control technique is verified in MATLAB/Simulink. In the simulation study, the power generated, wind speed and pitch angle profiles are discussed. The Adaptive PI controller is compared with a conventional proportional-integral (PI) controller and Fuzzy Logic Controller. Simulation results shows that the Fuzzy Logic Control based Adaptive PID controller is more effective against wind speed variation than PI controller and Fuzzy Logic Control, and thus it contributes to the better performance of the wind energy conversionen_US
