An Extended hemispherical dielectric lens with tapered profile for 5G is designed and the measurement results are presented. The lens is made out of low-loss, low-permittivity material (Polylactic Acid). The single-beam lens achieves a directivity of 25.2 dBi. Several different configurations and refractive index profile of lens are studied using the finite-difference time-domain methods technique and compared in range of 20-28 GHz as a function of tapering angle, air gap, dielectric constant and extension length. The conventional integrated lens antennas suffer from spill over loss and internal reflections that deteriorate the beam steering properties. The spillover losses add on to sidelobes and internal reflections are known to affect cross-polarisation level, and input impedance of the feed and mutual coupling. ILAs are designed to exhibit high directivity and very low reflection loss.en_US
