Abstract: Seeing through walls is both fascinating and relevant as far as commercial and military paradigms are considered. Through wall imaging (TWI) seeks to find what can’t be seen with naked eye. Defensive surveillance, reconnaissance and behind the wall target detection are primary goals of TWI. Hostage rescue missions, such as in fire, earthquake or any other natural calamities or in case of terrorist activities, are equally relevant. The quality of images in TWI are primarily dependent on the knowledge of wall parameters. A lot of research is going on and many literatures have been written on this topic. This report mainly targets accurate and precise detection of targets behind walls, image enhancement and image de-noising. For achieving this, an autofocusing technique using some higher order metrics is proposed. Image enhancement is achieved by taking into account the attenuation of electromagnetic waves inside walls and thereby nullifying its effect. Moreover, a novel weighting scheme is described to improve the integrity of target images and reducing the computational time.
