Abstract: | The aim of this project report is to give an overview on the concept behind the design of a multi band antenna for WLAN / WiMAX applications, the latest trends and the future scope. Antennas are a critical hardware component and play a major role in deciding the capability of a device to operate for a certain application. It becomes very important firstly, to decide for which particular application the antenna is required and based on that, one must go about deciding its size, shape, applicability, the losses it would incur being installed in a certain device, its durability, ease of installation, operability and type of application, like industrial/ medical or military applications etc. In this report, a comprehensive study has been carried out by initially placing an application based requirement/ objective, for achieving a multiband antenna for WLAN / WiMAX applications. Basic concepts and present techniques for designing of a multi-band antenna with various examples of latest papers/ transactions published in IEEE have been brought out. Further in the report a multi-band and a quad-band antenna with broadband characteristics have been designed for WLAN/ WiMAX applications and the various steps and procedures till reaching such a design have also been discussed along with the simulated and measured results |
