Abstract: | Urban transportation is facing a lots of challenge in a country like India, where nothing has went well for the first half of last century. Things have not gone better too since then. But now is the time to decide our fortune on our hands. Urban walkability has shown its promises and now how ready are we to take them? With the aim to support the walkability dimension in the Lucknow city this study is taken to meet its objectives which are to provide guidance towards the walkability. With the support of the institute and other members on an analytical basis the problems of the study were tried to be attempted. The study suggest the pertaining issues related to the city and the selected study area in specific. We could find the various types of issues which can be handles by some specific kind of attention only. We found issues due to the lack of management, lack of skill and lack of will. Since there is a huge amount of existing, contemporary literature to the topic, it can be said that it is actually trending subject and a brilliant opportunity to work upon. Cities have to get the walkability as their inherited property and therefore we have structured dataset to look where for the search question. Walkability can be explored in terms of identified direction as found by the review of literature. We have enough literary support for the topic but people still not able to find out utility of the subject. As they are unable to understand by now that it is their efforts which are most essential to achieve the required targets. Results of the study have shown that there is difference in the perceived assessment and the normative assessment of the existing conditions. Lots of issues people actually blame but do not understand that these can be solved only by their little efforts. Even the developing agencies think the process wise and are unable to decide how to move further, thus conditions are not improving. While the recommendation made in the study would fix the problem as it is not possible to make huge changes in the built neighbourhood. But there is definite need highlighted for the specific policy guidelines to move forward. For the further development in the field of the study the more research is required. There is also a need to find a solution of how to educated people in the future to know about the walkability and make their demand more judiciously |
