Abstract: The aim of this dissertation is to study the effect of high temperature on the compressional and shear velocities of major rock types such as sandstone (sedimentary), limestone (carbonate sedimentary), granite (plutonic, igneous), and meta-basalt (metamorphic). For this purpose, we have taken core samples of these different rock types i.e. meta-basalt, limestone, sandstone and granite. Experiments have been conducted on these samples which have been heated from room temperature (298 K) to high temperatures (to 600 K and 800K respectively for different experiments) and then the variation in compressional and shear velocities were measured. However, not only are the wave velocities affected but also those parameters which are dependent upon them such as Poisson’s ratio, P-wave modulus, S-wave modulus, and Modulus of Elasticity are also affected. The experimental results showed that with progressive heating of the rock samples to higher temperature, there is an observed decrease in both the compressional and shear velocities of the rocks. A similar trend has been observed for parameters such as Poisson’s ratio and Elastic Modulus as well
